that makes contact with known
customers, prospects (warm and cold),
and asks for a response.

DM is not just about direct mail, but includes a wide
range of media such as:
• telephone
• 'off the page' advertising and inserts
• broadcast media such as radio and television
• the Internet
• and other new and traditional advertising media
